Join us at the Spotlight Film Festival at the historic Lincoln Theater in Mt. Vernon.
The Spotlight Film Festival Series in Mt. Vernon features four separate documentaries that shine a light on topics important to our community.
The first two films in the series will include post-film discussions for attendees to discuss their reaction to the film and action steps. Child care providers who participate in the discussion will earn two STARS hours. The discussion will be led by State Certified STARS Trainers Jeanne Holdal and Ariana Salazar. Spanish subtitles will be included, and the discussion will be held in both English and Spanish.
Unseen, May 1, 2023
Unseen is a feature-length documentary that brings public attention to the topic of stress on parent caregivers who have children with developmental delays or disabilities. We will reflect on the powerful stories about challenges parents and caregivers face with children who have special needs. We will discuss the importance of early detection and screening and a child care provider’s role. This film reveals how our country is failing caregivers and their children with unique needs and how we can support them.
Tomorrow’s Hope, May 8, 2023
Tomorrow’s Hope brings public attention to the importance of sharing powerful success stories about the human connection between families and early learning caregivers. The film highlights a child care center created by passionate early educators in the projects/government housing in the Southside of Chicago, a predominately BIPOC community. This documentary will have Spanish subtitles and a bi-lingual Spanish/English trainer.
