Preschool Teacher Job Description
As a Lead Preschool Teacher for Skagit Art Preschool (SAP) you will:
- Establish and maintain a constructive and ongoing rapport with children and parents
- Provide Developmentally Appropriate Early Childhood activities that are fun and educational for the children
- Collaborate with other teachers to ensure that the school fosters an environment that is inviting and nurturing for every child
- Prepare and submit reports, such as “Incident Reports,” “Action Plans,” and assessments, etc., made to enhance the student’s potential for learning and maturing with positive attachment
- Manage day-to-day classroom activities, including structured lessons, free play, bathroom breaks, lunchtime and rest time for students
- Develop schedules and routines to ensure children have enough physical activity, rest, and playtime
- Plan and carry out a curriculum that targets different areas of child development, such as language, motor, and social skills
- Organize activities so children can learn about the world, explore creative interests, and develop artistic skills
- Participate in and become skilled with applying a variety of educational techniques (storytelling, educational play, media etc.) to teach children
- Utilize well-established and researched methods to help children improve their social competencies and build self-esteem
- Encourage children to interact with each other in conflict resolution and walk the Skagit Art Preschool “Peacepath”
- Maintain a clean and tidy classroom consistent with health and safety standards, and follow the safety and sanitation guidelines for classrooms as evident in the Washington Administrative Code (WAC)
- Guide children to develop their artistic and practical capabilities through child-centered curriculum process
- Keep records of the students’ routines and interests, and keep parents informed about their child
- Fulfill needed requirements for STARS training basic 30 as required by MERIT, such as CPR, Mandated Reporter, SIDS/Shaken Baby Syndrome, and any other required classes or continuing education credits
- Prepare to submit fees for Background Checks and Fingerprints, all teachers must be clear to work in Washington State
