Dual Language Learning is a training that was created by DCYF and partnered with University of Washington’s Institute for Learning and Brain Sciences (I-Labs) to create a training series for licensed family child care providers and Child Care Centers to support language development.
This FREE training provides best practices to support language development for all children, the benefits of multilingualism and a shared understanding of the importance of culture in language learning. You will learn practices to support children who speak a language other than English by understanding the importance of culture in the acquisition of language.
This training will receive 12 STARS hours and is done through the DCYF online Training portal. There are six weeks of modules that participants work through with discussion boards and journal writing as part of the learning.
Upon completion of the training series, participants will receive a toolkit to support children and families in the classroom that include books, educational toys, and other learning materials. One toolkit per program will be given to centers or family childcare’s who have multiple staff register for this training. Toolkits are valued at over $250 per kit. All programs need to be from the Northwest region which include Island, San Juans, Skagit, Snohomish, and Whatcom counties.
